Love the Lord Your God

What does it mean to put God first? Matthew 22:37 clearly states that we are to love the Lord our God with all our hearts, souls, and minds, but what does that mean?

How can we put God first in a world that pulls us in every direction?

I was thinking about this earlier, and I believe that loving God with all our heart means valuing Him above anything else. Above fame, our jobs, relationships, and accomplishments.

What do you value more than anything else in the world? What if God took that away? Would you and I still be able to say blessed be the Name of the Lord?

Take Job for instance. The Bible records that Job lost everything, his ten children and everything he owned. He was a very wealthy and successful man in those days, and maybe he prided himself for that.

But all that changed when he lost it all. His health deteriorated, his family abandoned him, and his wife even told him to curse God.

“In all this, Job did not sin or charge God with wrong” (Job 1:22.)

The Bible even records that Job blessed the Name of the Lord. What faith! What love for the Lord that he trusted God even when all was dark.

You see, loving God (like loving another person) is not just about words but actions, too. If God took everything away from you or me, would we still trust Him as Job did?

I know it’s easier said than done, but I pray that God would give me patience like Job to trust Him no matter what.
